It was a tough day in the office at the MX nationals round 5 held at Murray Bridge in South Australia. Two 30th place finishes out of Australia’s top forty fastest riders was not all ups but not all downs. I took some positives out of the meeting and will carry them into this week’s event. This week I am boarding the plane to Perth W.A. I will compete in the 6th round of the MX Nationals on a track consisting of deep sand that chops up with the deepest whoops you could ever imagine.
The trip over to Murray Bridge with girlfriend Tahnee and good mate Woody started off a nightmare with the car nearly shitting itself on the way. We finally did get there five minutes before sign on and after all that we were starting to set up our pit area and it decided to rain, making good conditions to walk the track to check out the corners, lines and jumps.
We were staying in town and after dinner and a good nights sleep it was Sunday morning and we were off to the track for the days racing. Thankfully the rain held off and the track looked sweet. Practice and qualifying did not exactly go to plan and I was unable to get a good lap together, resulting in 34th pick at the starting gate for both motos. I made some adjustments to the bike before the first moto and they payed off. I got a good jump out of the gate but was held up in the second corner and then in a little pile up before the end of the first lap. This made it hard for me to gain momentum and the race was over before I knew it.
The second moto I was sensing a better result and another ok start had me well on the way; I was running a comfortable 17th and was starting to settle in when I cross rutted and ended up tasting the Murray Bridge soil. I got up pretty sore and threw a leg back over the bike, straightened the steering and set my sights on a strong finish. At this level any mistake means your history and the competition is that hard that you have to be 110% for the entire moto or you’re going to get smoked full stop.
I am planning on riding in Perth on Thursday and Friday with some fast local pro riders to prepare myself for the sand whoops as they take some getting used to. I will let you know how it goes and hopefully it will help my results for the upcoming round.
Remember to check out the photo gallery as Tahns is doing an awesome job taking snaps for you all to view.
Bye for now, stay safe…
